LATROBE, Pa. — Former President Donald Trump returned to western Pennsylvania Saturday evening for a campaign rally.
With less than three weeks remaining until the Nov. 5 election, thousands gathered at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport to hear the Republican presidential nominee speak.
Flying over a crowd of supporters, Donald Trump’s plane touched down at the airport at 5:30 p.m., about 30 minutes before he took the stage.
Walking out to the song “God Bless the USA,” the former president started his speech talking about his friendship with the late, famed golfer Arnold Palmer, who the airport is named after.
Trump then talked about several key issues, including the economy and immigration.
“If you vote for me, I will end inflation,” Trump said. “I will bring jobs back to our country. We’ll flood our shores with companies and jobs. We’ll seal our borders immediately.”
Bringing local steelworkers on stage to fiery chants of USA, Trump spoke about his support for U.S. Steel and keeping it here. He said he would put tariffs on companies if products aren’t American-made.
“We will bring back our manufacturing jobs, our energy jobs, our coal jobs, our steel jobs and our dreams,” Trump said.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers players Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell kicked off the rally by urging people to vote.
U.S. Senate Republican candidate Dave McCormick also spoke.
“We need new leadership in the Senate to put in place common sense policies under President Trump to get our country back on track,” McCormick said.
The crowd was far smaller than Trump’s last rally in western Pennsylvania when he returned to the Butler Farm Show grounds nearly three months after the assassination attempt in July.
“We had 101,000 people honoring Corey [Comparatore] the firefighter,” Trump said.
The former president has been crisscrossing Pennsylvania - a must-win battleground state.
“Together we will fight, fight, fight,” Trump said. “We will vote, vote, vote, and we will win, win, win like we’ve never won before.”
Saturday’s rally isn’t the last local campaign stop for Trump. Sunday night, he’s expected to go to the Steelers game as a guest of a suite holder who hasn’t been named.
