PITTSBURGH — A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in a Pittsburgh neighborhood on Wednesday night.
Allegheny County 911 dispatchers confirm first responders were sent to the 4100 block of Murray Avenue in the city’s Greenfield neighborhood after 10:10 p.m.
An investigator on scene told Channel 11 that while it’s early in the investigation, preliminary information shows Pittsburgh officers were responding to a domestic incident when they met a man armed with a knife in a stairwell. Two officers fired their weapons, striking the man. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
The medical examiner’s office identified the man killed as Matthew Foster, 24, of Moon Township.
The spokesperson said no officers were hurt in this incident.
The Allegheny County Police Department is investigating the shooting.
Sources tell Channel 11, officers were called to the home because of a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend.
When they got there, Foster allegedly showed them a knife — and sources say officers tased him, but it didn’t work.
That’s when our sources say — Foster didn’t stop swinging the knife, and the veteran and rookie officers fired at him — killing him.
Now, according to Channel 11 sources, four officers are on paid administrative leave.
