House, nearby car heavily damaged by fire in Arlington

PITTSBURGH — Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Pittsburgh’s Arlington neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

An Allegheny County 911 supervisor says the fire in the 2700 block of Spring Street was first reported at 3:49 p.m.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital due to heat exhaustion, officials on scene told Channel 11.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause.

The house suffered extensive burn damage on its rear side. A nearby car was also heavily damaged.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials say seven adults and two children were displaced. The Red Cross is assisting.

The homeowner, David Strozier, tells Channel 11 he was walking back from the store when he saw the back side of his home in flames, coming from an air conditioning unit outside.

Strozier said his family, including his 9-year-old son, was inside at the time. He had to run around to the side of the house to try and get them out.

“It was stressing me out because my son was in there, and he just came back from a football game and everything,” Strozier said, “and I tried to get in there, and I couldn’t get in there, so I ran to the front of the house and started banging on the door, and I guess they finally heard me.”

Strozier said the car that was burned belongs to his sister.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
