From Monroeville Police Sergeant James MacDonad’s patrol car’s dash cam, you can see a man on the sidewalk dart out of sight after firing multiple gunshots.
From there, Sergeant MacDonald starts backing up, and at least a dozen more shots are fired directly at him as he’s shouting “shots fired” into his police radio.

And from his body camera, you can see he ducked down to avoid getting hit by the bullets.
However, Macdonald was shot twice but survived.
Despite his injuries, he was able to take control of the crime scene that night by giving directions to other officers and checking to see if they were okay.
The man who police say pulled the trigger is Jamal Brooks, who, at the time, refused to pose for his mugshot at the Allegheny County Jail.
According to investigators, Brooks robbed the Monroeville Crumble Cookie, then fired 16 shots at Sargent McDonald when he tried to question him.
We first reported yesterday, Brooks waived his right to an attorney and instead chose to represent himself, which meant Brooks questioned the sergeant he’s accused of shooting.
Macdonald showed restraint several times on the stand, as Brooks questioned his memory of that night.
