PERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Emergency crews rescued a woman from a creek in Lawrence County on Wednesday.

911 dispatch officials say the call came in at noon for a kayaker in trouble in the Slippery Rock Creek in Perry Township, near Ellwood City.

Upon arrival, we’re told first responders found a woman clinging to a branch. Swift waters had pushed her and her kayak toward the shore, where she hit a tree. The kayak then filled with water, weighing her down until she was able to push it free.

The water was moving too swiftly for them to wade to the woman, so a boat from the New Castle Fire Department was brought in.

First responders eventually brought her to shore. She complained of cuts and bruises but did not need to be taken to a hospital.

Her kayak was later found downstream.
