A PennDOT worker is in the hospital after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning on the Parkway North.
An Allegheny County 911 official tells Channel 11 that the crash in the southbound lanes near the Mt. Nebo exit happened around 7:20 a.m. A PennDOT official confirmed the crash involved one of their vehicles that was picking up litter.
Per Pennsylvania State Police, a Toyota Tacoma passed one PennDOT vehicle during the litter clean-up operation but hit a different PennDOT truck while merging into the left lane of traffic. The impact of that crash pushed the PennDOT truck forward, hitting a worker who was in front of the vehicle.
The drivers of the Tacoma and PennDOT truck were treated by medics on scene and released. The worker hit by the PennDOT is being treated at a local hospital but is expected to be ok.
This crash briefly shut down most of southbound I-279 while first responders were on scene. State police are continuing to investigate the crash is ongoing, but say the driver of the Tacoma is facing charges.
