PITTSBURGH — Along with family, food and football, Thanksgiving week and gratitude go hand in hand. After all, the holiday has the word giving in its name. Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward doesn’t just define gratitude and giving back. He embodies the true spirit of it all.

For Heyward, it’s about so much more than being a leader and giving back to his community. He wants to set an example for all of the people behind him too.

“I think setting an example is very big in my life, because I’ve had so many different people who have set the example for me,” said Heyward. “You know, I’ve got to learn from guys like Troy Polamalu and Brett Keisel. And you know for me, I’ve always wanted to learn more and give back and seeing those guys and see how much they wanted to give back, I wanted to give back.”

Setting an example with his play on the field and his work off it seems almost second nature to the defensive lineman.

On the Black & Gold Zone on Channel 11 at 6:45 p.m., hear from Heyward about the inspiration for his work on and off the field.
