Officials said one person was inside of a car when it fell through the surface of a two-level parking deck and garage at Fremont Square, a large apartment building.
The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Bellevue’s police chief told Channel 11 the victim did not appear to have major injuries but went to the hospital.
For Jeff Brueckner, who lives next door, it was an unexpected wake-up call that shook him out of bed.
“I just felt it. It wasn’t really loud, but you could feel the rumble,” Brueckner said. “It was pretty crazy.”
“My aunt used to live in that building, and I would go to visit her and take her places, and i would park up on top of there because that’s where the visitors park,” said Carol Matthews, who lives next door in the Shamrock apartments.
The police chief said the borough’s building code department is handling the investigation into why part of the structure caved in.
The property manager at Fremont Square was not willing to comment.
