Butler father charged with homicide in death of 2-month-old son

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — People who live on Spooner Drive in Butler tell Channel 11 they’re in disbelief after learning about a two-month-old baby being killed in their neighborhood over the weekend.

“Shocked and devastated,” Wendy Fischer said.

Fischer lives two doors down from Vincent Miceli, 32. He is in jail without bond after state police say he killed his two-month-old baby boy on Saturday.

“I keep hoping it’s just a misunderstanding and an accident,” Fischer said. “I really hope that’s the case, and he didn’t actually do that.”

Police got a call from the baby’s mother while she was at work, saying her two-month-old was home with his dad and was not breathing and turning blue.

Police said they knocked at the door several times before Miceli answered. They said he came to the door in a towel and said he had just gotten out of the shower.

Paramedics said the baby was lying on the couch, naked. He had no pulse and was not breathing. Paramedics also said they saw bruises on the baby’s head and torso.

According to charging documents, Miceli told police he fed the baby before putting him down for a nap, then played with the baby, “Blowing a raspberry” on his stomach, and noticed a bruise on his head.

Paramedics took the baby to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma to the head.

“I’m just in denial,” Fischer said. “I’m in shock because it’s so horrible, I can’t wrap my brain around it. That baby was so tiny. The last few times I saw it, it was so, so small and so cute. I can’t. I don’t know.”

Police said Miceli went to get another bottle for the baby from the kitchen around 2:30 p.m., and Miceli told them the bruise was bigger and he was shaking.

They said Miceli told them, “Dude he was dead.”

Instead of calling 911 himself, police said Miceli called the baby’s mother, and said he told them he saw the police outside and decided to shower before answering the door.

Fischer said she feels so bad for the baby’s mom.

“I don’t know her that well, but any support that she would need, I’d be more than happy to provide it,” Fischer said. “It’s going to be hard for her to get through this. I can’t even imagine. It’s so sad and so horrible. I feel so bad for her, that poor mama.”

Miceli is due in court on Nov. 20.
