‘Beyond a miracle’: Community honors heroes who rescued Ambridge family from burning house

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — A community is honoring the heroes who rescued an Ambridge family from a fire in April.

Only Channel 11 is speaking to the grandmother who was forced to drop two young children out of a third-story window.

“The firefighters, the police, my neighbors. I want to thank them so much,” Shelly Stanley said.

She was asleep inside when the fire started and tells Channel 11 that flames were already advancing up the stairs, forcing the family to the third-floor window.

“I start screaming and that’s when those two young men came flying up and they just said drop the babies. We had them out the window because the smoke was so overcoming,” she said.

The grandmother dropped 1-year-old Levi and 3-year-old Serena into the waiting arms of the two young men. Then, it was her turn.

“I just missed the ladder and I just fell down and hit the ground.”

Shelly fell three stories but is thankful to have left with a fractured wrist, fractured discs in her back, and burns.

The harrowing rescue was the precursor to Tuesday’s emotional reunion with the first responders who saved her, including Officer Jason Seng who was in command that night in April.

“It’s beyond a miracle. It was nobody but God that got me out of that.”

The two young men that caught those kids were also honored and Ambridge’s council meeting but did not attend.

Shelly tells Channel 11 the house was not totaled, and the family is working on repair costs. If you would like to donate to their GoFundMe page, click here.
