In 1930, Joe Atria opened a grocery store in Mount Lebanon. In 2025, Atria’s will open 1930.
Inspired by prohibition-era cocktail speakeasies, the new restaurant concept —1930 by Atria’s — is currently slated for a late February opening at the 110 Beverly Road space. It’s a concept that legacy plays a role in, even beyond the callback to the 1930s. The landmark eatery first opened as Atria’s in 1998, backed by Pat and Nancy McDonnell. Now, their son Patrick is taking the reins, leading the space to a new, albeit old, era.
“You can say I started there at two years old, behind the bar washing glassware, but I technically started there when I was 15 dishwashing, and I’ve kind of worked my way up through the company,” Patrick McDonnell said. “They said ‘hey, how would you feel about us rebranding the original Atria’s to be something new, like a prohibition-era cocktail bar to pay homage to the fact that the Atria family bought it and opened it in 1930 originally.’ I liked the idea, so I decided to go with it and took over as general manager.”
