PITTSBURGH — Several people charged in a scheme where tickets meant for underprivileged children were resold for profit faced a judge on Monday.
Quan Britt stayed silent as he walked into the Sharpsburg magistrate today.
He and six other people, plus two organizations, are accused of taking free tickets from a local non-profit and reselling them.
The non-profit is Tickets for Kids, and is based in Blawnox. It works with other non-profits to give disadvantaged or at-risk kids tickets to events, sports games, and museums.
According to detectives and a grand jury, the defendants charged in this case diverted hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of tickets for their own personal gain, or resold the tickets for profit.
Investigators say Britt, the executive director of Hope4Johnston, ordered 536 free tickets, worth nearly $17,000, to various events.
Another defendant, Todd Hall, who worked for one of the non-profits, allegedly ordered hundreds of tickets, and according to police, was often seen scalping at games.
And the last suspect to face a judge today was Jacob Mazzie and Steel City Tickets. Detectives say he too stole tickets from Tickets for Kids.
They say: “In September of 2023, New York Mets/Miami Marlins tickets obtained by a non-profit ended up for sale on Steelcitytickets.com, which is the website for Mazzie’s company. ”
When we reached out to him after court to ask if he had a comment to Channel 11 or the kids he allegedly stole tickets from, he said no.
