BUFFINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two children are dead after a house fire in Indiana County on Sunday.
NBC-affiliate WJAC reports that the fire occurred in the 900 block of Dilltown Heights Road in Buffington Township.
According to the Indiana County Coroner’s Office, an adult in the home noticed the fire at 2:23 a.m.
Three other people were able to escape the home, but two children — a 12-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy — were trapped inside, the coroner’s office says.
The coroner’s office has ruled their deaths accidental. Their names will not be released.
Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.
WJAC reports that a woman was taken to a hospital from the fire.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the fire’s cause.
The Glen Campbell Jr. Fire Department posted on social media that the victims were students in the United School District.
The district issued a statement Sunday, saying that two students died in a “tragic event.”
“We offer our sincerest condolences and support to the families of these students in these heartbreaking times,” the district said.
Support services will be offered to students and staff on Monday and Wednesday at United Jr./Sr. High School.
