State police have charged two people accused in a string of bar burglaries across multiple counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
In 2023, police said David Alan Rice and Stephanie Denise Hankle burglarized twelve bars in Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
The targeted businesses included The Darkhorse Saloon, Brenda Lee’s Bar, June Bug’s, Starlite Bar, Slavonic Club, Coal Hill Tavern, Russ’ Tavern, The Watering Hole, Allenport Marina, Black Diamond VFW and Cloverleaf.
Investigators determined that Hankle would drive Rice to the bars to scout locations and assess security measures. After the bars would close, police said Hankle would drop off Rice, who would find a way inside. Once inside, Rice would allegedly take multiple items and tell Hankle to come pick him up.
State police said Rice stole numerous items throughout the year, including cash, money bags, coins, proceeds from poker machines, an entire ATM and alcohol.
In total, authorities said Rice and Hankle stole $17,517.21 and caused around $8,000 in damages to the 12 bars.
State police continue to investigate.
