Child shot in stomach in Beaver County, flown to hospital

MARION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A child is in the hospital after being shot in the stomach in Beaver County.

Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Herman Road in Marion Township around 11:22 a.m., 911 dispatchers say.

Channel 11 crews learned that an 11-year-old child was shot in the stomach. They were flown to a hospital from the scene.

Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible tells us it appears that teenagers were playing with guns.

“They may have had, kind of, multiple guns that weren’t loaded and they were just making the sounds and squeezing the triggers and shooting at each other. And then I believe the 14-year-old pulled a pistol he had in a holster, a .22, that unfortunately was loaded," Bible said.+

The DA said the child is expected to be okay.

“This is still another senseless thing that didn’t need to happen,” Bible said.

Detectives believe the gun belonged to the 14-year-old’s dad, who recently died. They were locked in a safe, but the DA says the teenager found the key.

It is still unclear whether or not charges will be filed.

“It’s still an ongoing investigation. I think in the next day or two we’ll be able to flesh out whether charges will ultimately be filed or not, but right now, it does look like an accident,” Bible said.
