Firefighters at the scene said a woman who was in an upstairs bedroom had to be taken to a hospital.

Just before 6 p.m., sources told Channel 11 that one person had died. More details are expected to be released by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

Smoke was billowing out of the house’s roof when Channel 11 arrived at the scene.

Pat Green with Rivers Edge Volunteer Fire Department said part of the roof caved in.

Flames were shooting out of a hole that burned through the top part of the house.

Firefighters said they faced some challenges with hydrants because of the cold temperatures.
