Conway fire chief voted out at meeting; borough recommending independent investigation, sources say

CONWAY, Pa. — A local fire chief facing a suspension for allegations made against him is now off the job.

The Conway Volunteer Fire Department has a new chief and assistant chief and the borough is recommending an independent investigation into the department.

11 Investigates first reported last week that allegations were made against then-chief Daniel Byrne. A police report was filed with Beaver Valley Regional Police, but the district attorney said the allegations did not rise to a criminal level.

Byrne initially resigned, then recanted and returned as chief, opting to take a suspension instead.

Sources tell us he was not honoring his suspension and showed up to department events.

Last night, an overwhelming majority decided he was no longer fit to serve as chief.

Channel 11 was told by members of the department that the community is in very good hands with the new leaders who were appointed to the top spots in the department.

We’re also learning the volunteer fire department was operating as a non-profit but was not registered as a 501c3.
