Off and snow showers continue through Tuesday, so watch for slick spots on untreated surfaces.
Another record cold start is in the forecast Saturday with temperatures dropping to -10 degrees and wind chills as low as -15 degrees. A Cold Weather Advisory is in place, and temperatures this cold will be dangerous if you’re outside and not fully prepared.
Fresh snow and mainly clear skies will set the stage for record cold low temperatures early Friday morning and again early Saturday.
A Cold Weather Advisory continues through Friday with dangerously cold temperatures expected.
Snow will become heavy at times with snowfall rates as high as 1 to 2 inches per hour going into the afternoon.
The heaviest snow Sunday will be from roughly mid-morning through the afternoon with rates that could be in excess of 1-2 inches per hour at times. Recent trends suggest a “warm nose” of air aloft could transition some areas to sleet or perhaps freezing rain for a period of time. That is most likely for areas along and south of I-70 and across the higher terrain over Westmoreland and Fayette counties, where snow totals could be held down a bit.
Snow develops late tonight through early Sunday and continues off and on through Monday morning.
Wind chills will dip near zero early Saturday ahead of the next system, bringing heavy snow to the area through Monday.
