Mega Millions jackpot rises to $1.1 billion

Because no one won Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot of $940 million, Tuesday’s drawing will feature at least the third largest payout in the promotion’s history.

No ticket matched all six numbers drawn, lottery officials said in a statement early Saturday. The top prize increased to $1.1 billion ahead of the next drawing on Tuesday night.

The numbers selected Friday were 3, 20, 46, 59 and 63, and Mega ball 13.

“Mega Millions has just reached the $1 billion mark again. It’s especially nice to see the jackpot grow throughout the holidays and into the new year,” Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium, said in a statement. “We are thankful for the support of our customers and retailers, which allows each of our 47 member lotteries to generate funds for good causes within their jurisdiction. As the jackpot grows, we encourage our players to keep within their entertainment budget and enjoy this jackpot run right along with us.”

According to lottery officials, this is the fourth time that the Mega Millions jackpot has topped $1 billion.

A record $1.537 billion ticket was sold in South Carolina for the Oct. 23, 2018, drawing. A 1.337 billion ticket was sold in Illinois on July 29, 2022, and a $1.050 billion jackpot was won in the Jan. 22, 2021 drawing, lottery officials said.

A winner on Tuesday could choose to take the amount in an annuity paid over 30 years or opt for a lump sum of $568.7 million before applicable taxes.

Five tickets matched the five white balls to win the game’s $1 million second-tier prize, lottery officials said. Two were sold in New York and one each in Florida, Maryland and New Jersey.

The last time anyone won the grand prize in the Mega Millions game was Oct. 14, lottery officials said.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. The game is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
