Update 12:50 p.m. EST Feb. 1: In the statement, attorney Bob Bauer said the search started around 8:30 a.m. and ended at noon. He added that the search was planned and “conducted in coordination and cooperation with the President’s attorneys.”

“Consistent with the process in Wilmington, the DOJ took for further review some materials and handwritten notes that appear to relate to his time as Vice President,” Bauer said.

Last month, the attorney said that lawyers searched Biden’s home in Rehoboth Beach and found no classified documents. Records with classified markings were found at the president’s home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Original report: Attorney Bob Bauer said the search was taking place “with the President’s full support and cooperation.”

“Under DOJ’s standard procedures, in the interests of operational security and integrity, it sought to do this work without advance public notice, and we agreed to cooperate,” the statement read. “The search today is a further step in a thorough and timely DOJ process we will continue to fully support and facilitate. We will have further information at the conclusion of today’s search.”

The search comes amid an ongoing special counsel probe of Biden’s handling of classified records. Officials previously said that government records were found in November at the Penn Biden Center in Washington. Biden’s attorneys later searched his homes in Wilmington, Delaware, and Rehoboth Beach for more classified documents.

Last month, Sauber said that lawyers found “a small number of additional Obama-Biden Administration records with classified markings” at the president’s Wilmington home. The attorney said that no documents were found in the Rehoboth Beach house.

Biden bought the house in Rehoboth Beach after he served as vice president under President Barack Obama, CNN reported. He and his wife, Jill Biden, spend some weekends at the property and last visited from Jan. 20 to 23, according to the news network.
