WPIAL football playoff brackets revealed

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — The playoff pairings are set in the six classes of the WPIAL. They were announced Saturday afternoon on the TribLive High School Sports Network.

All higher seeds are the home team.


In 6-A, Mt. Lebanon is the defending champion. There are only five teams in the conference, and four of those made the playoffs. All four teams will wait an additional week for their semi-final games.

#1 North Allegheny vs. #4 Canon-McMillan on November 11 at 7:00 p.m.

#2 Mt. Lebanon vs. #3 Central Catholic on November 11 at 7:00 p.m.

The 6-A championship will be at Norwin High School on Saturday, November 19, at 6:00 p.m.


In 5-A, eight teams made the playoffs. They include the first and second-place finishers in each of the three conferences and two wild-card teams. The wild cards are defending 5-A Champion Penn-Trafford and North Hills.

The quarterfinals for 5-A begin November 4. All games are at 7:00 p.m.

Bethel Park is the overall #1 seed. Looking at the brackets:

#4 Gateway vs. #4 Upper St. Clair

#2 Pine-Richland vs. #7 Penn-Trafford

#3 Franklin Regional vs. #6 Woodland Hills

The 5-A championship will be at Norwin High School on Saturday, November 19, at noon.


Defending 4-A champion Aliquippa is the overall #1 seed again this season. Three teams get a first round bye: Aliquippa, Central Valley and Thomas Jefferson.

The 4-A championship will be at 8:00 p.m., November 25, at Acrisure Stadium.


In 3-A, there will be a new champion. Defending champion Central Valley moved up to 4-A this season. Belle Vernon is the overall #1 seed. Four teams get a first round bye: Belle Vernon, Avonworth, Freeport and Elizabeth Forward.

In 2-A, Serra Catholic is the defending champion. They will be a #5 seed this year. Steel Valley is the overall #1 seed. Two teams get a first-round bye: Steel Valley and Beaver Falls.
