Daughter of woman killed in Lower Burrell speaks out after tragedy

LOWER BURRELL, Pa. — The daughter of a woman killed at the hands of her husband is speaking to Channel 11 about the wonderful person she says her mother was.

“She loved her grandkids so much. They were her pride and joy,” said Emily Steele.

These are the memories that she wants to share about her mom, Kelly Steele.

“She was just very loving and kind to anyone she met,” said Emily Steele, 18. “She was a very amazing woman, and I look up to her every day.”

It’s because Steele has so many fond memories that this has been an incredibly hard week for her family.

Saturday, Alfred Steele showed up to state police saying he’d just shot and killed his wife, Kelly, at the U-Haul storage facility in Lower Burrell. Police found her body inside a unit that she rented. Alfred Steele is behind bars, charged with homicide.

“We’ve all just kind of been checking on each other because it was a major hit for the family. She was the glue that kept everyone together,” said their daughter, Emily.

She didn’t want to get into what her family has been going through recently, but she was quick to share things about her mom:

She grew up in Apollo, worked as a call taker for CVS and was a mother of two and a grandmother of two. Emily’s brother, Ean, is married and has a young family.

“Us three were just very close with the kids. She’d see them and they would just light up. They constantly still ask about her,” said Emily Steele.

And there’s a lot that Steele wants to share with them about their grandmother once they’re older:

“I just want them to know how perfect of a person she was. She never did a bad thing in her life,” said Steele. “She cared about everyone, so much.”

Especially her family. Steele considers her mom her best friend. She says they were looking forward to spending the summer together when Steele gets home on break from college.

“It’s a really hard thing to think about her being gone,” she said. “I’m just going to continue to try to be the woman that she was.”
