Brackenridge to rename borough street after fallen Police Chief Justin McIntire

BRACKENRDIGE, Pa. — As the rain falls on Third Avenue in Brackenridge, it signifies a new beginning.

“It honors his memory in a way he had a real love for what will be McIntire Way and that part of the neighborhood in that block. He loved growing up there,” said Lindsay Fraser who’s the mayor.

It’s also the same place where Chief Justin McIntire ultimately lost his life.

“He was such a strong example of quality of character that we’ve all been trying to hold onto and move on in that spirit,” Fraser said.

That’s why this community will honor its hometown hero by changing over the name of Third Avenue to McIntire Way on Saturday.

“So we think by renaming it McIntire Way it not only honors him by putting his name on that street but it also calls us as residents to consider what is the McIntire Way and how would he want us to move forward as a community,” Fraser said.

It’s a months-long project finally reaching its end with a resident donating the money to buy the new signs and McIntire’s family placing the final piece.

“The chief’s brother is actually on our public works crew and he’s the one changing out the sign. When I say we are a small-knit community and most of us are family in some way. That’s exactly the kind of thing I mean,” Fraser said.

The official ceremony to change over the street name is Saturday at 3 p.m.. at the corner of Morgan Street and the new McIntire Way.
